Hunger remains one of the most urgent yet solvable humanitarian challenges of our time. Despite living in a world of abundance, millions of families continue to struggle daily to put food on the table. In Kenya and across Africa, recurrent droughts, floods, conflict, and economic hardship have left vulnerable communities facing chronic food insecurity and malnutrition.
Al-Khair Foundation Kenya, is committed to addressing hunger by providing life-saving food assistance to families affected by emergencies while also supporting long-term food security solutions. Our food assistance programmes are designed to respond swiftly during crises and to restore dignity and resilience within communities.
During emergencies and seasonal periods such as Ramadhan, we distribute nutritious food packs and cooked meals to the most vulnerable households, including widows, orphans, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and drought-affected families. These interventions help ensure that families have access to safe and adequate food when they need it most.
“What you feed yourself is Sadaqah for you. What you feed your child is Sadaqah for you. What you feed your wife is Sadaqah for you. What you feed your servant is Sadaqah for you.”
Hadith | Sahih al-Bukhari
What’s Included in Our Food Packs?
Each Ramadhan food pack is carefully assembled to meet the nutritional needs of a household of approximately six people for one month. While contents may vary slightly depending on location and availability, food parcels generally include staple items such as:
- Rice
- Maize flour or wheat flour
- Sugar
- Cooking oil
- Lentils or beans
- Salt and other essential items
For Iftar meal distributions, meals typically consist of a balanced combination of staples such as rice or bread, vegetables, and protein sources including meat or chicken, adjusted to local dietary preferences.
Addressing Hunger in Kenya and Africa
Imagine a family waking up each day uncertain of where their next meal will come from. For many households in drought-prone and low-income areas, hunger is a daily reality. Without consistent access to nutritious food, children struggle to learn, caregivers are unable to work productively, and families remain trapped in cycles of vulnerability.
At Al-Khair Foundation Kenya, we believe that no one should have to endure hunger. Our food assistance programmes not only provide immediate relief but also give families the strength and stability they need to recover from crises and rebuild their lives.
